Trouble in the Neighborhood

SO FRUSTRATED. How can it be that we NEVER had one issue with our neighbors when we lived in the city (mostly because no one ever came outside or talked to anyone) but now that we live in the country - people find it necessary to make life difficult.

We have fires. Lots of them. We started a few weeks ago by getting a phone call from our next door neighbor (who's family is seriously unfriendly) at 12:45 AM to put out the fire that was smoldering and making his house smell. Are you serious? The fire had reignited and was smoldering. Go close your windows brilliant.

Last week there was a confrontation on the cul-de-sac between my hubby and rude neighbor man about our fires and him reiderating that fires are against township regulations, he knows blah-blah-blah... This really ticked off my hubby who went down to the F.D. and found out it was legal to burn in a barrel and if it was less than 4' X 4' fire that no burn permit was required.

Well tonight the wind shifted and the smoke started to blow to rude neighbor's house. I immediately fanned the flames to get it burning hotter to create less smoke as to not irritate the neighbor. We headed into the house to get kids ready for bed. At which point the F.D. showed up at our house. The old guy wouldn't identify himself upon several requests from the hubby as he looked at the fire. The old guy got a bit irate with hubby about not burning after 7 PM as the ordinance... blah blah blah. Seriously - 7 PM. What about bonfires? Isn't this the country?

Turns out that grumpy old F.D. guy is a friend of rude neighbor man. Gotta love small towns. So he demands that we put out the fire with water about the time the fire chief shows up. Slow night in a small town. He looks at the fire and says "That's it? We don't usually inforce that rule unless there is a complaint. Just let it burn out."

Why does drama always seem to follow us? I had a fun post planned for tonight, but I'm too tired and too ticked off to pull myself together. Good night and hopefully I'll have a better attitude tomorrow. No promises.

Darn that stinks! My evil twin says next time burn some damp leaves....on a windy day;)

But I do understand that you have to civil, geez maybe the old fart will just move. We can always hope;)

ETL - doubt he will move. It was his parents' land that was split up to make this mini-development. That's why he thinks that he's in charge of the community.

He called the fire department for that? Over here he would probably have been fined for that!

why do you think drama follows you?

Print out a copy of the local fire regulations, laminate it, and show it to neighbor guy next time he complains. Then offer him some of your awesome baked goods and say you'd rather chat about hunting than fight about fires. People that get grumpy that easily aren't worth getting so worked up about. You can do it. :>

I'm so sorry! That guy has no idea how fortunate he is to have you guys as neighbors and to complain about something so redicilious is nuts! He obviously doesn't understand that you are an amazing BAKER and an incredible GIVER and he's wrecking his chances of being the RECIPIENT of that! LOL! Just kidding...in fact, maybe some of your awesome baked goods can turn this whole thing around! Hmmm...what do you say?

...some people just have too much time on their hands...

I suppose any kind of retaliation is out of the question? I have some really evil but fun ideas.....

No? I didn't think so.
